According to Ian Rapoport, the Lions discussed a potential trade for Falcons RB Devonta Freeman at length before the deadline yesterday.
However, in the end Atlanta decided it didn’t want to trade Freeman and a deal did not get done.
The Lions have had numerous injuries at the running back position and were linked to a number of runners ahead of the deadline. The Falcons, meanwhile, have started the process of shedding salary and veterans as they prepare for a rebuild.
Freeman, 27, is a former fourth-round pick of the Falcons back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $2.7 million contract when he and the Falcons agreed to a five-year, $41.25 million extension that included $22 million guaranteed.
Freeman stands to make base salaries of $3.75 million and $6.5 million over the next two years of the agreement.
In 2019, Freeman has appeared in eight games for the Falcons and rushed for 333 yards on 97 carries (3.4 YPC) to go along with 35 receptions for 272 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
