Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley‘s 2012 season is over after the team placed him on Injured Reserve today with a shoulder injury, per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.
Fairley was starting to show signs of the play-making ability he displayed three years ago at Auburn. Over his last five games, Fairley had netted 23 tackles to go along with five sacks.
Fairley’s late season breakout is encouraging for the Lions as defensive tackle Corey Williams is set to be a free agent in the coming months. With the continual development of Fairley alongside pass rushing play-maker Ndamukong Suh, the Lions figure to have a very stout defensive line for the years to come, which is what they envisioned when they drafted Fairley two years ago.
