The Detroit Lions announced Saturday that they’ve placed RB Tra Carson on injured reserve and promoted RB Paul Perkins to their active roster.
Carson, 26, originally signed on with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M back in 2016. After being waived and signed to their practice squad, Carson was eventually promoted to the Bengals’ active roster.
Carson was in the final year of a three-year, $1.47 million contract when he was waived with an injury designation. The Bengals later cut Carson loose with an injury settlement and he eventually signed on to the Packers’ practice squad.
Green Bay waived Carson coming out of the preseason and re-signed him to their taxi squad. The Packers later waived him and he was claimed by the Lions.
In 2019, Carson appeared in three games for the Packers and Lions and rushed for 48 yards on 18 carries (2.7 YPC) to go along with four receptions for 18 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
Perkins, 24, is a former fifth-round pick of the Giants back in 2016. The Giants waived Perkins with a non-football injury designation last year and he later reverted to their injured reserve list.
New York elected to cut Perkins loose last month he was later claimed off of waivers by the Lions. He’s been on and off of the Lions’ active roster the past month.
In 2017, Perkins appeared in 11 games for the Giants and rushed for 90 yards on 41 carries (2.2 YPC) to go along with eight receptions for 46 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
