The Detroit Lions announced Friday that they’ve signed CB D’Joun Smith to their practice squad and waivedย TE Brian Leonhardt from theย unit.
The Lionsโ practice squad now consists of:
- WR Jace Billingsley
- CB Alex Carter
- WR TJ Jones
- CBย D’Joun Smith
- QB Jake Rudock
- G Brandon Thomas
- DB Charles Washington
- LB Steve Longa
- LB Zavier Gooden
- RB George Winn
The Lions worked out Smith a week ago, so he was clearly on their radar.
Smith, 22, was taken in the third round of last year’s NFL draft and signed aย four-year, $3.314 million contract that included an $808,846 signing bonus.
Indianapolis placedย Smithย knee on short-term I.R. with a knee injury just a few weeks into the regular season. Unfortunately, the Colts waived Smith with an injury designation a few weeks ago and he later reverted to their injured reserve list.
The Colts waived Smithย from injured reserve with a settlement a few weeks ago.
In 2015, Smith appeared in four games and recorded one tackle and a fumble recovery for the Colts.
