Lions Sign CB Dโ€™Joun Smith To Practice Squad, Waive TE Brian Leonhardt

The Detroit Lions announced Friday that theyโ€™ve signed CB Dโ€™Joun Smith to their practice squad and waived TE Brian Leonhardt from the unit.

The Lionsโ€™ practice squad now consists of:

  1. WR Jace Billingsley
  2. CB Alex Carter
  3. WR TJ Jones
  4. CB Dโ€™Joun Smith
  5. QB Jake Rudock
  6. G Brandon Thomas
  7. DB Charles Washington
  8. LB Steve Longa
  9. LB Zavier Gooden
  10. RB George Winn

The Lions worked out Smith a week ago, so he was clearly on their radar.

Smith, 22, was taken in the third round of last yearโ€™s NFL draft and signed a four-year, $3.314 million contract that included an $808,846 signing bonus.

Indianapolis placed Smith knee on short-term I.R. with a knee injury just a few weeks into the regular season. Unfortunately, the Colts waived Smith with an injury designation a few weeks ago and he later reverted to their injured reserve list.

The Colts waived Smith from injured reserve with a settlement a few weeks ago.

In 2015, Smith appeared in four games and recorded one tackle and a fumble recovery for the Colts.
