Lions Sign G Geoff Schwartz To A One-Year Deal

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Pressย reports thatย the Lions are signing Gย Geoff Schwartz to a contract following his visit with the team on Tuesday.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Schwartz receives a one-year contract from the Lions.

The Steelers and Dolphins both showed interest in Schwartz, but it appears as though the Lions were his best option.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Schwartz to a contract won’tย factor into the Lions’ 2017 compensatory picks.

Schwartz, 29, was in the third year of hisย four-year, $16.8 million contractย that includedย $6.2 million guaranteedย he he was released in a move that freedย up $2,991,666 in available cap spaceย for the Giants.

In 2015,ย Schwartz was limited to appearing in 11 games for the Giants.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 22 guardย out of 82 qualifying players.

We had him featuredย in ourย Best Available Free Agents list.
