Lions GM Martin Mayhew mentioned on Friday that they will not be re-signing either free agent K David Akers or DE Israel Idonije, per Tim Twentyman.
- Mayhew also mentioned Dylan Gandy, Rocky McIntosh, and John Wendling as other players who won’t return for the 2014 season.
Akers, 39, converted 19-of-24 field goals for the Lions this past season. He didn’t find much interest on the open market last year, so it’s doubtful things will be any different for him in the coming months.
Idonije, 33, also found very little interest as an unrestricted free agent in 2013 before the Lions brought him in for the veteran’s minimum back in late June. He appeared in 15 games for Detroit and totaled 11 tackles and a half sack.
