According to Howard Balzer, the Detroit Lions brought in eight free agents for tryouts on Wednesday including former Vikings Moritz Bohringer.
The full list includes:
- WR Moritz Bohringer
- WR Malachi Dupre
- DT Tylor Harris
- OT Landon Lechler
- OT Givens Price
- S James Sample
- QB Joel Stave
- TE Hakeem Valles
Bohringer, 23, is a former sixth-round pick of the Vikings back in 2016. He signed a four-year deal worth $2,490,420 with Minnesota but was cut loose at the start of last year and later re-signed to the Vikings’ practice squad.
Bohringer returned to the Vikings on a future/reserve contract this past January but was once again cut loose last week.
In Germany,ย Boehringer caughtย 70 passesย for 1,461 yards (20.9 YPR) and 16 touchdowns, which was good enough for Rookie of the Year honors.
Sample, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2,828,580 contract and stands to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the next two years of the agreement.
In 2015, Sample appeared in four games for the Jaguars and recorded 15 tackles and one pass defense. He missed the 2016 season due to a shoulder injury.
Stave,ย 24, wound up signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin back in May. He was, unfortunately, waived coming out of the preseason before later signing on to the Vikings’ practice squad.
The Vikings cut Stave loose back in November and he later signed on to the Seahawks’ practice squad after clearing waivers. Stave didn’t last long with the Seahawks but was eventually signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad where he finished out the season.
During his four-year college career, Stave threw for 7,635 yards while completing 59.5 percent of his passes to go along with 48 touchdowns and 37 interceptions.
