Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Lions will work out free agent QBs Josh Johnson and Landry Jones on Saturday.
According to Garafolo, Lions backup QB Tom Savage left last nightโs game after his head hit the turf following a hit. As of now, David Fales is the only other quarterback on the Lions’ roster behind Matthew Stafford.
Johnson, 32, is a former fifth-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2012. Since then, Johnson has played for a number of teams including the 49ers, Browns, Bengals, Chargers, Jets, Colts, Bills, Ravens and Giants before catching on with Texans last season and finishing out the year in Houston.
The Raiders signed Johnson to a contract this past March only to cut him loose a few weeks after last year’s draft.
Johnson was selected with the No. 1 overall pick by the San Diego Fleet of the Alliance of American Football before signing on with the Redskins in December.
In 2018, Johnson appeared in four games for the Redskins and completed 57.1 percent of his passes for 590 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions. He also rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown.
Jones, 29, is a former fourth-round pick by the Steelers in the 2013 NFL Draft. He finished out the final year of his four-year rookie contract and returned to Pittsburgh on a two-year contract in 2017.
However, the Steelers elected to release Jones coming out of the 2018 preseason as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players. He had a brief stint with the Jaguars last year before signing on with the Raiders during the offseason.
Unfortunately, Oakland cut Jones loose a few weeks ago.
In 2017, Jones appeared in three games for the Steelers and recorded 23 completions on 28 attempts (82.1 percent) for 239 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception.
