“Mutual Interest” Between Evan Mathis & Dolphins, Who Are Willing To Pay Around $2M

According to Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for free agent G Evan Mathis, there isย “mutual interest and desire” between the Dolphins and his client.

However, Rosenhaus saidย thatย “we still have a long way to go” and “we’ll see if it can work out,” via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Rosenhaus mentioned that thereย are a lot of other interested teams in possibly signing him client to a contract, but Mathis’ asking price right now is reportedly close toย $5.5 million for the 2015 season.

Jackson reports that the Dolphins are more inclined to pay less than half of that figure.

A previous report mentioned that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross hasย advocated signing Mathis. However, they are reportedly looking to offer him a similar deal to theย stopgap contracts signed byย Daryn Colledge and Samson Satele in recent years, which wereย around $2-$3 million per season.

For what it’s worth, the Jets have also considered the possibility of pursuing Mathis, but there really hasn’t been a lot of buzz regarding the idea in recent days.

Some have suggested that the 49ers could be a good fit given that they have cap space to work with and and could use another offensive lineman.

Mathis, 33,ย is by far the best available free agent offensive lineman and should have a decent market for his services.

Last year, Mathis appeared in nine games for the Eagles after he dealt with anย MCL injury.ย Pro Football Focusย has him rated as the No. 2ย guardย out of 78ย qualifying players.

We have Mathis rated as the No. 1 player in ourย Top 25 Available Free Agents list.
