Mike Garafolo first reported that Lions DTย Ndamukong Suh is considering the idea of negotiating his contract much like Bernard Pollard recently did with the Titans.
- According to Garafolo, Suh could seekย some guidance from others such as Roc Nation.
- Ian Rapoport is “hearing” that the Lions would prefer him to hire an agent given that his next contract is likely to be a rather complex deal.
Suh represents the largest cap figure of any player on the Lions atย $22.4 million. Detroit is expected to have close to $10 million or so in available cap space, but taking care of Suh would drastically increase that figure.
Suh, 27, is in the prime of his career, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, and is without a doubt one of the best defensive players in the game.
The general expectation is thatย Suh will surpasses the five-year, $55 million contractsย recently signed byย Geno Atkinsย andย Gerald McCoyย by a significant amount. Recent guesstimates have mentioned that his next deal could average $13 million per year and include a signing bonus close toย $25 million.
We’ll have more regarding Suh and the Lions as the news is available.
