Report: Ndamukong Suh Hires Jimmy Sexton As His Agent

Update:

Liz Mullen of the Sports Business Journal reports that Lions DT Ndamukong Suh has hired Jimmy Sexton of CAA Sports as his new agent.

This could be a sign that the Suh is prepared to work out a contract extension with the Lions in the next few weeks that would give them some additional cap space to work with.

We’ll have more as the news is available.

Mike Garafolo first reported that Lions DT Ndamukong Suh is considering the idea of negotiating his contract much like Bernard Pollard recently did with the Titans.

  • According to Garafolo, Suh could seek some guidance from others such as Roc Nation.
  • Ian Rapoport is “hearing” that the Lions would prefer him to hire an agent given that his next contract is likely to be a rather complex deal.

Suh represents the largest cap figure of any player on the Lions at $22.4 million. Detroit is expected to have close to $10 million or so in available cap space, but taking care of Suh would drastically increase that figure.

Suh, 27, is in the prime of his career, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, and is without a doubt one of the best defensive players in the game.

The general expectation is that Suh will surpasses the five-year, $55 million contracts recently signed by Geno Atkins and Gerald McCoy by a significant amount. Recent guesstimates have mentioned that his next deal could average $13 million per year and include a signing bonus close to $25 million.

We’ll have more regarding Suh and the Lions as the news is available.
