New & Rumors: Bart Scott, Alshon Jeffery, Jared Gaither, Cordy Glenn

Tony Pauline of SI.com provides some great news and rumors from the NFL Scouting Combine.

Bart Scott

Pauline reports that the Jets could release LB Bart Scott in the coming weeks and specifically mentions that the New York Giants could be interest in his services.

Scott has been relegated to a run specialist position with the Jets defense but despite the move, he’s been productive in limited use even he’s lacking the ability to get to the quarterback.

Alshon Jeffery

Pauline mentions that scouts that he’s spoken with at the Combine “were less than impressed” with South Carolina WR Alshon Jeffery.

Jeffery already has a number of red flags to deal with like conditioning and overall speed so this kind of news isn’t going to help him get back into the first-round.

Jared Gaither

Interestingly enough, Pauline writes that the Pittsburgh Steelers could “make a move” for OT Jared Gaither.

Pittsburgh has been focused on creating some much needed cap space in an attempt to keep restricted free agent WR Mike Wallace. Adding free agents at this point seems like it might be getting a little ahead of the process but once they clear enough cap space, offensive tackle figures to be at the top of their list.

Cordy Glenn

Georgia OT Cordy Glenn really helped his draft stock today by showing some athleticism and speed. Pauline reports that the Baltimore Ravens have a number of interviews setup with some this year’s wide receiver prospects but adds that Glenn would likely be their pick at this point.
