NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Cowboys

Cowboys free agent DE DeMarcus Lawrence says he understands heโ€™ll be back in Dallas one way or another next year.

โ€œI mean I already know what my situation is,โ€ Lawrence said, via Todd Archer of ESPN. โ€œI really donโ€™t care about it because I already know how the Cowboys feel about me and they know how I feel about the organization. My agent will take care of everything, bro. We know it feels. He knows my right moves, so heโ€™ll do it.โ€

If Lawrence and the Cowboys are unable to work out an agreement on a long-term extension, heโ€™s an obvious candidate to be franchised.

We have him featured in our Top 25 โ€“ 2018 NFL Free Agents list.

Eagles

  • Eagles HC Doug Pederson announced Tuesday that Nick Foles will remain the teamโ€™s starting quarterback for their playoff game.
  • Pederson later texted Ian Rapoport: โ€œMy guy is Nick Foles, end of story.โ€

Giants

Giants QB Eli Manning says he would like to return to New York under the right circumstances.

โ€œYeah, I mean, this is what I want to do,โ€ Manning said, via ESPN.com. โ€œI want to play quarterback for the New York Giants. Thatโ€™s what I hope happens, and obviously weโ€™ll talk and figure out whatโ€™s the plan for the franchise going forward.โ€

Manning added that he believes he can still play at a high level.

โ€œI feel like I can still play at a high level,โ€ Manning said. โ€œI feel like I can make the throws and, if you get the right guys around, that I can be very effective and play at an extremely high level.โ€

Redskins

Redskins HC Jay Gruden offered a mixed response when asked to evaluate how he thought QB Kirk Cousins played for them in 2017.

โ€œWhen youโ€™re 7-9, you know itโ€™s hard to say, โ€˜Wow, this guy really was outstanding,โ€™โ€ Gruden said, via Pro Football Talk. โ€œKirk had his flashes where he was really good. From a consistent standpoint, over the course of 16 games, you know, weโ€™re 7-9. He did some great things, threw for over 4,000 yards and 29 touchdowns. So I think heโ€™s a very, very good quarterback without a doubt, but as far as getting us over the hump from 7-9 to winning a division with all the injuries that we had, I think he competed and did some good things.โ€
