NFC East Notes: Travis Frederick, Cowboys, Giants

Travis Frederick

  • Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters on Thursday that theyโ€™re glad to know the issues surrounding C Travis Frederickโ€™s Guillain-Barre Syndrome diagnosis. (Todd Archer)
  • However, Jones said that thereโ€™s no way of knowing when Frederick would be able to return: โ€œHis spirits are great.โ€
  • Sources tell Todd Archer that Frederick could miss multiple weeks of the season.

Cowboys

  • Cowboys HC Jason Garrett said Thursday that Joe Looney will see some work at center while Travis Frederick deals with an autoimmune disease. (Jane Slater)
  • The Cowboys plan to keep Zack Martin at right guard, but heโ€™s also an in-house option to play center if needed.
  • Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said they have not held discussions about Frederickโ€™s roster spot such as placing him on injured reserve with or without a designation to return. (Calvin Watkins)
  • Cowboys G Zack Martin said thereโ€™s โ€œno doubtโ€ he will be ready for Week 1.

Giants

Giants RB Jonathan Stewart does not think he was signed by New York to just play a mentor role to the younger running backs on the roster.

โ€œRight. And I donโ€™t think the front office has me here just to mentor either,โ€ Stewart said, via Ralph Vacchiano. โ€œAt the end of the day, itโ€™s football and if youโ€™re wearing pads and have a helmet youโ€™re expected to contribute on the field.โ€

  • Art Stapleton mentions that the Giants have the No. 2 spot in the waiver priority ahead of roster cuts. Stapleton adds that he wouldnโ€™t be surprised if the Giants made three-four waiver claims next weekend.
