NFC Notes: 49ers, Cardinals, Cowboys

49ers

  • If the Giants do indeed trade Odell Beckham this offseason, Mike Florio believes the 49ers are on the short list of potential trade partners.
  • San Francisco has the No. 2 and No. 36 picks in the upcoming draft to dangle for Beckham, though if the 49ers traded the second overall pick, Florio believes they’d ask for a third or fourth round pick from the Giants to balance the deal.
  • San Francisco 49ers safety Adrian Colbert tweeted that he’d like to see Seattle safety Earl Thomas join the 49ers next season, per Jennifer Chan.
  • Chan writes the move makes sense for San Francisco which already has former Seattle teammate Richard Sherman in the secondary and would likely have the cap space to add Thomas.
  • Chan says in addition to his on-field production, Thomas could also mentor the number of young safeties the 49ers have on the roster.

Cardinals

Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray says he has “no expectations” his former coach and current Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury will take him at No. 1 in the draft.

“At the end of the day, they’re going to do what’s best for them,” Murray said Monday night via Pro Football Talk. “I can’t go into it with any expectations of being taken by the Cardinals. That would be nice for sure.”

Cowboys

  • Albert Breer of TheMMQB would be surprised if the Cowboys paid top dollar for S Earl Thomas this offseason.
  • Breer mentions that Xavier Woods costs far less than Thomas would and they have a number of players in need of long-term extensions to address.
  • Regarding DE DeMarcus Lawrence, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said: “I’m not gonna get into any of our strategy, and it is strategic. DeMarcus is certainly a significant part of now and the future. But we’re in the stages of planning on all of our personnel.” (Jon Machota)
  • Jone mentioned that both he and Jason Garrett have “real trust” in one another: “I am and Jason is, we’re both happy with where we are. We’ve done this before. We both have real trust in each other, a little more unique than normal.” (Dallas Morning News)
  • As for addressing the safety position, Jones said: “Yes. That’s about all I’ll say, but yes.” (Todd Archer)
  • According to Mike Fisher, the Cowboys are interested in an “affordable” Earl Thomas and a “serious flirtation is coming.”
