NFC Notes: 49ers, Cardinals, Kyler Murray, Seahawks

49ers

Colts QB Carson Wentz said he believes in 49ers rookie QB Trey Lance.

“There are going to be a million things pulling you in one direction, then the other direction, pressure, expectations, all these things,” Wentz said, via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. “But I know Trey. He’s got a great head on his shoulders. He’s young, age-wise, but he’s very mature. I know he’s going to be just fine.

“He’s in a great situation. They have a great culture there in San Fran, a good coaching staff. So I know he’s going to do a great job, and I’m excited for him. I just keep telling him to be himself: ‘Don’t let any of those things change who you are, change your values, change your perspective on football. Just go play.’”

Cardinals

Cardinals GM Steve Keim expressed complete confidence in third-year QB Kyler Murray.

“Because it’s arguably the most important position on the field, you always put some time and effort into that position,” Keim said, via Cardinals.com. “(But) I would say my confidence at the position and in general is at a real high.”

Keim is specifically excited about having a young star at the position to build around.

“Now, with a guy like Kyler Murray, the thing that is so exciting for me is having the opportunity to build around a young player, a guy you can grow with as an organization and as a roster. And there are different things you can do, especially with a rookie contract, as opposed to a veteran who is making a considerable part of your salary cap.”

Seahawks

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll signaled out TE Gerald Everett on ESPN 710 Seattle as a breakout player for the 2021 campaign.

Oh, I think you’re going to be really excited to see Gerald Everett,” Carroll said, via SeahawksWire. “This is I think the fanciest, sweetest-looking receiver/tight end mix that we’ve had. He’s like a wide receiver, he’s got terrific after-the-catch run ability, really aggressive and he’s a good blocker, too.

Carroll emphasized Everett’s ability to win on third-down and believes he will be a key piece for QB Russell Wilson in the passing game this season.

What Gerald brings us is a real threat in the throwing game. Should be a big factor on third down,” Carroll said. “Our tight end spot is a good position already with Will (Dissly) and you’re going to see Colby Parkinson coming up – he’s been really impressive. But Gerald is a really unique player and he should catch a lot of balls and be right in the middle of the action this year.”
