NFC Notes: Bears, Lions, Rams

Bears

Bears HC Matt Nagy admitted during an appearance on McNeil & Parkins Show” that they need to be more effective in terms of their running game moving forward.

“When you look at the last couple years with where we’ve been, we reflect and we understand that we need to be better in the run game,” Nagy said, via Bearswire.com. “When your run game isn’t quite as good as you want it to be, at that time, it’s hard to call runs. At the same time, we need to do whatever’s best for our team. We need to adjust and adapt as coaches to who our players are.

“Now that we’ve had a couple years as a staff to see figure out players’ strengths are and what their weaknesses are, now we are able to work together with them and put together a product on the field that we think is a lot better. If that means running the ball a lot more, shoot, we are going to do it.

“Whatever we need to do, we’ll do it.”

Regarding their current running back group of David Montgomery, Tarik Cohen and Ryan Nall, Nagy said they are confident in what these backs can do from here on.

“We feel like we’re in a good place right now to be able to move forward and feel very multiple in what we do,” Nagy said. “Trust me, all of our players, all of our coaches are doing everything we can to know that we need to be a lot better than where we were last year offensively.

“There’s no finger pointing. It’s all about solutions. It’s about working together. It’s moving on.

Lions

Lions DE Trey Flowers is “very excited” to work with new defensive coordinator Cory Undlin.

“He’s a fiery guy,” Flowers said, via Lionswire.com. “He worked well with coach Patricia at the (New England) Patriots and I can tell that he’s about the same principles, he’s about winning, he’s about getting the job done, and he’s about it being about the players going out there making plays, regardless of the scheme.”

“I’m very excited,” Flowers added, “looking forward to it. I know he’s got high expectations, he sets a high standard, and anytime you got a coach like that — that gets the most out of guys, demands highly if guys — it’s always good to work with (coaches like him).”

Rams

Rams new defensive coordinator Brandon Staley specifically mentioned Darious Williams as a player that stood out to him in the team’s secondary.

“I really like this secondary group. I think that Darious Williams is a guy that played really good football for this group in the last couple games,” Staley said, via Ramswire.com. “I think this guy can cover, I think he’s got a really good skill set for corner. He can run, he can change directions, he can play the ball in the deep part of the field, he’s got a good body. Him and David LongTroy Hill has played a lot of different positions in the NFL, provides a lot of versatility. Those guys really are exciting to be able to work with and we can use those guys in some unique ways, hopefully.
