NFC Notes: Buccaneers, Cowboys, Panthers

Buccaneers

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston now has a full cast on his right hand after playing through a thumb injury in Week 17. 

Cowboys

  • According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, it does not sound like an official decision regarding HC Jason Garrett‘s future with the team will come this weekend.
  • Ed Werder of ESPN reports that Garrett has been campaigning to return as head coach for the 2020 season. A source tells Werder that it’s hard to imagine why Garrett would even want the job at this point.
  • Albert Breer says Garrett told his staff on Monday that assistants on expiring contracts were free to look for other jobs immediately.
  • However, Breer adds that Kellen Moore and Marc Colombo were “two exceptions” to those assistants looking for new positions. (Albert Breer)

Panthers

  • Alex Marvez reports that some assistant coaches for the Browns who are still under contract with the team are being temporarily blocked from job interview requests until they decide on their head coaching vacancy.  
  • Tom Pelissero reports that the Redskins are hiring former Panthers’ head athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion, who spent the past 18 years in Carolina under HC Ron Rivera.  
  • Joe Person also reports that the Redskins are scheduled to interview Panthers DL coach Sam Mills III.
  • According to Person, Rivera and the Redskins also hired former Panthers OL coach John Matsko and WRs coach Jim Hostler.
