NFC Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants

Cowboys

Now that he is back on the field and healthy, Cowboys’ QB Dak Prescott reflects on his time watching from the sidelines.

“Just from the simple fact, I’m sitting there watching the game, I never had to watch as much football in my life without being a part of it,” Prescott said, via Calvin Watkins of DallasNews.com. “You don’t take the small things for granted, you don’t take the walk-throughs, you don’t make the meetings, you don’t take hanging out at lunch or dinner with the guys for granted because at any moment obviously it can be taken away from you. It can be taken away from you for a short period of time or a long period of time, and we don’t necessarily know that that’s what this game brings.”

Prescott knows he is the face of the franchise in Dallas and is excited to be back with his teammates and continue his path.

“It was just good to get back out there, fully moving, being a full participant in everything,” Prescott said. “It’s exciting just being back with the guys. The ankle injury is the last thing I’m thinking about. But obviously, I’m going to see where I am at as I continue to go on and make sure that I can set the right plan to take care of it.”

  • Cowboys’ OC Kellen Moore on WR CeeDee Lamb‘s limited role last season: “Last year with the compressed offseason, he played a lot in the slot. And obviously, we want to move him around a lot more. … He’ll line up everywhere across the field and we’re gonna have fun doing it.” (Jon Machota)
  • Cowboys’ ST coordinator John Fassel is “not concerned” about K Greg Zuerlein‘s availability for Week 1: “Hopefully, he’ll be ready in a couple of weeks. Hopefully, we’ll get a preseason game in. No doubt, with his experience, he’ll be ready for Week 1.” (Michael Gehlken)

Eagles

  • Howard Eskin of WIP Radio said, based on his information, there is a “90 percent chance” that the Eagles will acquire Texans QB Deshaun Watson if he is, in fact, available for trade: “Based on the information that I’ve got, when Deshaun Watson is traded, I think there’s a 90 percent chance that he will be with the Philadelphia Eagles. And just based on all the information that I’ve gotten, that’s what I’ve come down with.” (ProFootballTalk)
  • Mike Kaye of NJ Advance Media writes that Eagles’ second-year CB K’Von Wallace could earn a larger role in Philadelphia’s defense if CB Rodney McLeod (ACL) is unable to start the regular season.
  • Kaye believes CB Marcus Epps is a player on the roster bubble and will have to compete for a job in training camp.
  • Kaye also thinks Eagles CB Andrew Adams is on the bubble and will compete for a roster spot with Epps, Grayland Arnold, and Elijah Riley. In the end, Adams must prove he is more than a special teams contributor.

Giants

Former Giants QB Eli Manning said he expects a big year from QB Daniel Jones in 2021.

“I think so,” Manning said, via Giants.com. “I think also just the fact that from your first year to second year, [he] had a new offensive coordinator, a new coach, and everything going in. Now, at least going from [year] two to three, he has the same offense and the ability to grow within the offense. It’s not just the quarterback getting comfortable; it’s the offensive line, the receivers, everybody getting on that same page. I’m excited for him, I’m excited about the team, and I look forward to good things.”
