Jason Cole of B/R reports that Panthers franchise CB Josh Norman is seeking a contract that would pay him as much as $16 million per year like Darrelle Revis.
Cole mentions that one issue for Norman is the fact that he’s already 28 years old and will be 30 after the 2017 season has concluded. Teams generally don’t sign cornerbacks in their thirtiesย to big-money deals, so Cole believes the Panthers could once again use their franchise tag on him next year.
The tag will run the Panthersย $13.952 million fully guaranteed for the 2016 season, but won’t prevent them from negotiating a long-term deal before the July deadline.
Norman,ย 28, is a former fifth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2012. After playing out the final year ofย his four-year, $2,299,000 rookie contract. Carolina used their franchise tag on him close to a month ago.
In 2015, Norman appeared in all 16 games for the Panthers and recorded 56 tackles, four interceptions with two being returned for touchdowns, three forced fumbles, two recoveries, and 18 pass defenses for the Panthers.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 6ย cornerbackย out of 118 qualifying players.
