NFC Notes: Eagles, Falcons, Giants

Eagles

  • Following Sunday’s loss to the Packers, Eagles HC Doug Pederson said they opted to bench Carson Wentz and go with rookie Jalen Hurts because the offense needed a spark: “At the time, I just felt like where we were as an offense, we needed a spark.” (Zach Berman)
  • Pederson was asked who will get the start in Week 14: “You’ve got to let me get through this game. …There’s a lot of things I’m going to consider and evaluate before anything is decided.” (Zach Berman)
  • When asked if Wentz has been playing poorly because he’s looking over his shoulder at Hurts, Pederson said: “I can’t answer that because I’m not in Carson’s shoes.” (Jeff McLane)
  • Wentz admitted that it was frustrating to be benched in the second half: “I didn’t know what the plan was fully. I was just told he was going in for the next play, next series. Obviously, that’s frustrating as a competitor and just the personality that I have. I want to be the guy out there, but it is what it is.” (Zach Berman)
  • Wentz did, however, stress that he hasn’t lost confidence: “I know what I’m capable of … I’ve never lost confidence in my abilities.” (Mike Kaye)
  • When asked if the organization put him in a position to succeed, Wentz said: “Listen, we’ve had a lot of things this year. I know first and foremost, I’ve got to be better. …I’m not the guy who’s going to point fingers.” (Zach Berman)
  • ESPN’s Rich Cimini writes there’s buzz in league circles about Pederson being a top option for the Jets if he’s fired by Philadelphia. He adds there’s even some thought the Eagles could trade Pederson to get some compensation. Jets GM Joe Douglas worked closely with Pederson for three year with the Eagles, including the Super Bowl season in 2017.

Falcons

  • Falcons interim HC Raheem Morris was asked if he still has confidence in OC Dirk Koetter: “I have confidence in the team.” (Jason Butt)
  • The Atlanta Falcons are hosting DB Chris Williamson for a visit this week, according to Aaron Wilson.

Giants

  • Giants HC Joe Judge admitted that they had to hold QB Daniel Jones out of Week 13’s game: “I had to protect Daniel Jones from himself today. There’s no doubt he would have fought through whatever pain he was feeling today, but I have to make those tough decisions. We have all the confidence in the world in Colt McCoy.” (Matt Lombardo)
