Eagles
- NJ.com’s Mike Kaye writes Eagles 2019 second-round WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside has an opportunity to start with WR Alshon Jeffery likely starting the year on the PUP. Philadelphia will need another big-bodied receiver, but Arcega-Whiteside has to demonstrate improvement from his rookie season.
- As for the rest of the depth chart, Kaye believes WRs Marquise Goodwin, Greg Ward, Robert Davis, fifth-round rookie John Hightower and sixth-round rookie Quez Watkins are battling for the last three spots on the depth chart.
- Kaye notes Eagles first-round WR Jalen Reagor will start behind veteran WR DeSean Jackson at the “Z” position at first, slowly working his way into the offense from there. He adds the speedy Reagor offers insurance in case Jackson is hurt again.
- According to Adam Caplan, former Eagles C Keegan Render may be done playing in the NFL, which is why Philadelphia cut him on Tuesday.
- On the Inside the Birds podcast, former Eagles RB Brian Westbrook compared current Eagles RB Boston Scott to another Eagles RB, Darren Sproles: “A real comparison to Boston Scott is Darren Sproles. Scott is more physical build but just as quick, can help in pass game, and is a willing blocker.”
Giants
- Art Stapleton reports that Giants T Andrew Thomas and his representatives continue to work on a contract with the team, and are optimistic it can be done by team physicals on Monday. Thomas took part in team testing Thursday.
- Stapleton adds that Thomas wanted to report to camp regardless of whether his deal was finalized and did so. He will continue to participate as negotiations continue.
Washington
- The Fritz-Pollard Alliance is making inquiries to determine if Washington followed the Rooney Rule when hiring EVP Terry Bateman and senior VP of media Julie Donaldson. (Mark Maske)
- Bateman revealed the Washington Football Team was never close to selecting a new team name before deciding on the interim name for 2020. (Les Carpenter)
- Bateman said keeping the burgundy and gold color scheme is likely one of their priorities with a new name: “That’s not something we ever discussed changing. We want to preserve the history. We have a great history, we want to link it in. The burgundy & gold is an important part of who we are. I can’t see that changing, but that’s not my call.” (John Keim)
- Washington is hiring Diana Hymowitz as a Football Operations Assistant according to her Twitter account.
