NFC Notes: Eagles, Lions, Packers

Eagles

The Eagles believe there’s more room for growth to come from LB Jordan Hicks.

“I would hope so,” Eagles LBs coach Ken Flajole said when asked about Hicks, via CSN Philly. “We’re all emotionally tied in with our guys. I think he’s done a great job for us. Is there room for improvement? No question. But he works at it. It’s important to him. I know it’s important for him that he puts the team success above himself.

“I would suspect that there’s more ceiling for him at linebacker. And I expect him to work at those things.

Lions

  • Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press points out that the Lions are on the hook for the final year of OT Greg Robinson‘s contract at a guaranteed price of $3.322 million. Robinson doesn’t have offset language included in his contract, which means Detroit would owe him this money, even if they cut him and he signs with another team.
  • According to Birkett, Robinson is actually the No. 8 highest paid player for the 2017 season on the team’s roster. With this in mind, Birkett mentions that it’s not a leap to suggest the Lions expect Robinson to fill in for Taylor Decker for a good portion of the year.

Packers

Rob Demovsky of ESPN writes that former fifth-round WR Trevor Davis will need to stand out this summer to make the team, given that the Packers used two more draft picks on receivers and the position was already pretty deep before that.

Davis explained that he wasn’t able to utilize his speed last year because he was still learning the team’s offense.

“Last year was difficult for me because I was learning the playbook – I mean it’s difficult for everyone who comes in here – and you’re focusing more on the plays than anything else,” Davis said. “You want to run the right thing rather knowing why you’re running it, how to run it against the type of technique you’re running it against. Now I can think about those things and go into camp really knowing the offense better and just being able to make the right decisions.”

Packers WRs coach Luke Getsy expects Davis to have a “big August” for them.

“I think he’s going to have a really big August for us, and he’ll be one of those guys that are going to show up,” Getsy said. “And he’s shown that this spring. He’s made a ton of really, really impressive catches, and assignment wise he’s been so much better, so I’m excited to see him grow in August.
