NFC South Notes: Buccaneers, Panthers, Saints

Buccaneers

  • According to Greg Auman, the Buccaneers are sticking with Arkansas undrafted rookie Austin Allen as their No. 4 quarterback moving forward and opted not to sign Memphis QB Riley Ferguson, who tried out for the team this weekend.

Panthers

  • Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports soon-to-be Panthers owner David Tepper will purchase the team for $2.2B cash and a total price of between $2.2B and $2.3B, which includes some deferred money.
  • According to Rapoport, Tepper is committed to keeping the team in Charlotte, but at least one finalist had eyes on a stadium in South Carolina.
  • Rapoport adds that Tepper does not plan on making any major changes and is aiming to keep stability on all fronts.

Saints

Saints HC Sean Payton said that QB J.T. Barrett‘s leadership presence stood out during rookie minicamp and believes he should have been drafted.

“There is a leadership presence about him, he is an athlete. … a lot of the things that you look for in that position,” Payton said, via the Advocate. “He was certainly worthy of being drafted, and he has done a good job here.”

Barrett admitted that there are somethings he’s still getting used to but he thinks he’ll be fine.

“It’s been different from Ohio State,” Barrett said. “A lot more words, that’s for sure. Being in the huddle, huddling’s different. At first, I think it was a deer-in-the-headlight type deal, trying to find my way, but I think I’ll be all right.
