- According to Bleacher Report’s Tyler Dunne, 49ers CB Richard Sherman says his plan is to play four more seasons.
- 49ers GM John Lynch is still committed to QB Jimmy Garoppolo, but acknowledges the team needs to see him on the field: “He needs to play. I don’t care how talented you are, you’re going to go through growing pains playing that position in this league.”
- The Athletic’s Matt Barrows believes this is a critical year for 49ers DC Robert Saleh, as if the defense struggles again he could be let go.
- Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle expects the 49ers to release LB Malcolm Smith, WR Kendrick Bourne, and G Josh Garnett as a part of their final roster cuts.
- Branch mentions that 49ers CB Ahkello Witherspoon is competing with CB Jason Verrett to start opposite of Richard Sherman, while D.J. Reed could push K’Waun Williams for the slot role.
- As for a final spot on the active roster, Branch writes that CB Greg Mabin is competing with sixth-round CB Tim Harris.
Rams
- According to the Athletic’s Vincent Bonsignore, Rams QB Jared Goff isn’t worried about his contract status as he heads into the 2019 season eligible for an extension: “Time will take care of it.”
Seahawks
- Despite reporting for training camp, Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner did not practice as he continues negotiations on a contract extension, per Pro Football Talk.
- Seahawks RB Chris Carson practiced during team drills after missing the offseason program following knee surgery (Brady Henderson)
- Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise missed practice with the flu. (Curtis Crabtree)
- Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said DE Ezekiel Ansah will be eased into action in the hopes of being ready for Week 1. (Bob Condotta)
- Ansah is working out and lifting trying to gain strength in his shoulder in time for the season while participating in team walkthroughs. (Crabtree)
