49ers
While 49ers GM John Lynch wouldn’t rule out being aggressive to improve the team as San Francisco looks to get back to the Super Bowl, he’s handicapped by the team’s current cap situation. The 49ers have a little under $6 million in cap space per the NFLPA, which doesn’t leave any room for a major acquisition.
โThereโs always an opportunity to get better,โ Lynch said via NBC Sports’ Matt Maiocco. โWe do like where our roster is at. Weโre extremely happy with where itโs at. I donโt anticipate anything big coming โ and we are kind of nudged up against the cap, as well. So thereโs really not a lot of room to go do things like that. Thatโs for good reason. We have a lot of really good players and weโre extremely excited about that.โ
Rams
- The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue and Rich Hammond write it appears the Rams appear to be satisfied with John Wolford as the No. 2 quarterback, but undrafted rookie free agent QB Bryce Perkins offers some intrigue in a Taysom Hill-style role.
Seahawks
Among the many things the pandemic has thrown a wrench in regarding the NFL are free agents transitioning to new teams. That’s the case for Seahawks TE Greg Olsen, who is still living in Charlotte, North Carolina, while attending virtual OTA’s with his new Seattle teammates. Eventually, Olsen and his family plan to move to Seattle for however long this next phase of his career last, but for now he has to try to acclimate to new surroundings as best he can.
โI was really looking forward to the offseason, getting familiar with culture and flow and the people,โ Olsen said via NBC Sports’ Peter King. โWhen youโre in one place for so long, you take for granted the equipment guy, the security guy, the inside jokes. Now, like the new kid at school, you get the new locker, and the new classโand you canโt go into the school yet. But obviously, the circumstances are out of my control. Iโve gotten to do a lot with Russell and the receivers in [Zoom] sessions on our own, which has been really helpful.
โWe have a lease on a Seattle apartment, and weโre really excited. When we decided to do thisโme, my wife, three young kidsโwe said, โLetโs just jump. Letโs take a family adventure.โ Thereโs something great about at this point of my career having a new sense of purpose. Itโs all so different, learning this way and meeting my teammates this way. But whatโs really cool about it is itโs caused me to dive into this offense and this new group of teammates and caused me to be super-engaged. So thatโs actually been a big advantage to a very strange offseason.โ
- ESPN’s Field Yates mentions Seattle as an intriguing landing spot if former Panthers QB Cam Newton is willing to accept a backup position, as the only player behind Russell Wilson is undrafted rookie free agent QB Anthony Gordon.
