NFC West Notes: Cardinals, Rams, Seahawks

Cardinals

According to Robert Klemko, Cardinals GM Steve Keim gave Josh Rosen‘s agent, Ryan Williams, permission to seek out a trade after they took Kyle Murray at No. 1 overall.

Keim reportedly asked Williams if the Patriots liked his client and might be open to making him the heir apparent to Tom Brady.

Klemko says that Williams was taken aback and grew angry and wondered why the team hadn’t already attempted to find this out on their own.

“If you want to talk to teams about value let me know,” Keim texted. “We want to do what’s best for Josh and also what’s best for the organization.”

Klemko mentions that the Cardinals wanted a first-round pick for Rosen. When told the Cardinals’ asking price for Rosen, a Redskins executive told Klemko: “That’s really bold for someone who just took a QB.”

Rosen said he planned to beat out Murray for the starting job if the Cardinals kept him. However, Williams replied: “They don’t want that, and they know they don’t want that. We’re getting a trade done.”

Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald says he’s only seen QB Kyler Murray play twice, but said he looked “athletic and explosive.”

“You get the sense that he is a special talent, but obviously there is a lot of work that needs to go into it, you know a lot of skill development, learning the offense and things of that nature for him to continue to ascend,” Fitzgerald said via Jeremy Cluff of AZCentral.com. “For all intents and purposes, he looks phenomenal and you know as a teammate we’re going to welcome him with open arms and do everything we can to try to help him speed up the learning process as much as possible.”

Rams

Rams HC Sean McVay insisted that the decision to draft Darrell Henderson in the third round had nothing to do with Todd Gurley and his knee.

“Yes. This had to do with his skillset,” McVay said, Pro Football Talk. “He was a player that we identified as a unique playmaker. He can obviously so some things as a runner, but the versatility that he provides and some of the things that he can do are what was so enticing about him for us. You see the explosiveness — over 8 yards a carry. There’s a lot of good things that you’d seen with what he’s done and his résumé at Memphis. We’re excited to get him in here and get to work and really learn under Todd and Malcolm.

Seahawks

Seahawks GM John Schneider told reporters on Friday that veteran WR Doug Baldwin is, in fact, considering retirement due to injuries he’s dealt with.

“We know Doug’s going to have a hard time,” Schneider said, per The News Tribune. “There’s a process we need to go through with the [league office and NFLPA].”

“He has been an extraordinary part of this program since we’ve been here. He has given us everything that he has had. A great competitor, player and all that,” Seahawks HC Pete Carroll added. “We believe in him so much and trust in him so much that wherever this goes, we’re going to support him throughout.”
