• 49ers GM Trent Baalke said that “Justin Smith has earned the right to announce his playing status on his own time.“
• Baalke denied that they had received a call about the availability of QB Colin Kaepernick. He added that they have not called or talked to any team about trading Kaepernick. (Matt Maiocco)
• Baalke confirmed that OLB Ahmad Brooks will be back next season. (Matt Maiocco)

Bears

• Free agent S Ron Parker will meet with the Bears on Thursday. (Rand Getlin)

Buccaneers

• Roy Cummings reports that free agent C Stefen Wisniewski left his visit with the Buccaneers without a contract.
• Cummings adds that the Bucs could still be interested in him.

Giants

• The Giants waived OT Rogers Gaines and CB Travis Howard, according to Paul Schwartz.

Redskins

• Chris Russell reports that CB Brandon Browner is still set to visit with the Redskins.
