NFL Notes: 49ers, Bills, Chargers, & Steelers

49ers

  • The 49ers announced Tuesday that the 21-day practice window for ILB NaVorro Bowman has opened.

Bills

Mike Rodak of ESPN wonders if the Bills would have been better keeping their No. 9 overall pick instead of moving up for WR Sammy Watkins and including their 2015 first-round pick in the deal.

The debate isn’t as much about Watkins’ talent as it is about the other receivers in the class and the cost to acquire Watkins,” Rodak writes. “While it’s hard to argue that Watkins has been a critical part of a few wins this season, that doesn’t mean [Kelvin] Benjamin, [Brandin] Cooks, or others wouldn’t have been able to contribute.”

The Bills have maintained that they believe Watkins is one-of-a-kind talent, which is why they made the move up for him back in May.

“We knew this was going to be a talented group, but we were very excited and we felt that this guy would bring something to our team that we didn’t have,” GM Doug Whaley said of the move on Tuesday. “And we thought he was the best player for our situation.
