NFL Notes: Bears, Broncos, Packers, Raiders

Bears

Bears HC Matt Nagy said that OLB Khalil Mack‘s (ankle) situation for Week 9 will be “very similar” to last week.

“Hopefully he’s getting better — I feel like he is,” Nagy said, via the Chicago Sun-Times. “It’s gonna be what we just went through last week. It’s gonna be very similar this week.

Broncos

Broncos rookie WR Courtland Sutton made it clear he’s ready for an expanded role after the team traded away Demaryius Thomas on Tuesday.

“It’s just a theme that goes all the way back to OTAs for me: showing up and giving my all every single day,” Sutton said, via DenverBroncos.com. “Showing up and [making] sure I’m working on my craft to where I can be the best version of myself, because I ultimately believe that if I’m the best version of myself, I can be one of the best receivers in the league. [I’m] just coming to work every single day and [making] sure I do my job, not only for myself to move forward but for the team ultimately.”

Packers

  • Packers CB Tramon Williams said he will play safety on Sunday against the Patriots, replacing Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. (Tom Silverstein)
  • Williams said that he might play some corner too, but he is making the switch at the request of DC Mike Pettine.
  • Pettine said of Williams playing safety: “He’s done it before in his history. This is a rangy player who can run and has a very high football IQ and he can find the football. He plays with good vision and has a good sense when to break. Some guys can only play outside corner … he doesn’t fall into that category. He’s played in the slot, he’s played outside. There’s no reason to think he can’t at times help us at safety.” (Rob Demovsky)

Raiders

Jon Gruden says he gets “a lot of phone calls from people that are dying to play” for the Raiders.

I got a cellphone just like you and everybody else. I get a lot of phone calls from people that are dying to come play here. I’m just telling you. They’re dying to play for the Raiders,” Gruden said, via ESPN.com. “And to have salary-cap space and to have a chance to talk to the people that you really want to wear the silver and black, the guys you really want to wear the silver and black and represent this team, that’s exciting.”
