NFL Notes: Collusion Case, Jaguars, Jets

Collusion Case

According to Mark Geragos, who represents Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid in their collusion case against the NFL, there will be big news at some point this week.

“I will just say stay tuned that next week there will be news on Kap and on Eric Reid. That’s all I can say right now,” Geragos said on the “Reasonable Doubt” podcast. “I’m going to say, as you’re listening to this, there will be news next week.

Jaguars

  • Mike Kaye of First Coast News writes that the Jaguars should consider using a late-round pick on Virginia Tech CB Adonis Alexander, even though he could very well be a mid-round selection in this year’s Supplemental draft.
  • Regarding Mississippi State S Brandon Bryant, Kaye believes Jacksonville should pass on drafting him. If Bryant goes undrafted, Kaye says the Jaguars could consider taking a flyer on him.
  • As for Western Michigan CB Sam Beal, Kaye thinks he’d be worth adding after the fourth round or as an undrafted free agent.
  • Oregon State DE/OLB Bright Ugwoegbu is another player Kaye believes Jacksonville can pass on and see if he ends up being available as an undrafted free agent.

Jets

Veteran S J.J. Wilcox traveled to San Francisco with the plan being for him to sign with the 49ers. However, things changed and Wilcox wound up leaving the visit without a deal and instead signed a contract with the Jets.

Wilcox explained that joining the Jets was ultimately the best decision for him and his family.

“It was a three-way decision. It was the 49ers, the Jets and my family,” Wilcox said, via New YorkJets.com. “We came to a decision that it was best to come here. It was an opportunity that was un-turn-down-able and you’ve just got to take it.”

Wilcox added that Todd Bowles was also a big factor in his decision.

“He was a defensive-minded coach, he played the position,” Wilcox said. “When you look at that kind of stuff, you want to go to a guy that knows your position who knows how to make players into great players.
