NFL Notes: Cowboys, Giants, Redskins, & Vikings

Cowboys

Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas expects the Cowboys to keep Brandon Weeden as their backup quarterback and part ways with Caleb Hanie.

  • Archer has Dallas keeping four running back, but also cutting former second-round pick Ryan Williams.
  • Of the nine offensive linemen Archer projects to make the team’s final 53-man roster, veteran Uche Nwaneri is not one of them.
  • Archer also leaves 2013 fourth-round pick B.W. Webb off the roster as well.

Giants

Dan Graziano of ESPN New York projects the Giants to keep Ryan Nassib as their No. 2 quarterback and release veteran Curtis Painter.

Redskins

John Keim of ESPN.com has the Redskins keeping three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, which means Colt McCoy would make the team.

  • Keim mentions that RB Chris Thompson could be a candidate to end up on the practice squad.
  • However, Keim doesn’t see Evan Royster making the team this year.
  • Keim isn’t sold on WR Leonard Hankerson being on the active roster to start the regular season.
  • Keim also projects veteran LB Rob Jackson, second-year S Bacarri Rambo and S Akeem Davis to be a roster cuts.

Vikings

Ben Goessling of ESPN.com doesn’t have veteran S Kurt Coleman projected to make the Vikings’ final roster.

Goessling admits that Coleman still has a chance to beat out one of the team’s safeties for a roster, but Minnesota reportedly seems to like Antone Exum’s potential.
