NFL Notes: Draft, Cowboys, Packers, Texans

Draft

  • Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated expects Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield to be a first-round pick. Breer notes that Mayfieldโ€™s off-the-field concerns are โ€œoffsetโ€ by how the coaches and players at Oklahoma feel about him.
  • As for Louisville QB Lamar Jackson, Breer writes that โ€œit would be a surpriseโ€ to see him drafted in the first round since evaluators have raised questions about his instincts, anticipation, and ability to process a pro offense. Lastly, scouts believe Jackson is more of a โ€œthrower than passer.โ€
  • Breer says that โ€œnot much has changedโ€ regarding the draft stock of USCโ€™s Sam Darnold, UCLAโ€™s Josh Rosen, and Wyomingโ€™s Josh AllenBreer โ€œdefinitelyโ€ expects Allen and Rosen to declare for the 2018 NFL Draft, while Darnold is more unpredictable since he has not looked at agents or done much of the pre-draft process.
  • Breer views SMU WR Courtland Sutton as one of this yearโ€™s โ€œmost interesting prospectsโ€ and has a โ€œgood shotโ€ to be drafted ahead of Alabama WR Calvin Ridley and Oklahoma State WR James Washington.
