NFL Notes: Eagles, Jets, Redskins

Eagles

Jets

  • If the Jets acquired Kirk Cousins, Rich Cimini of ESPN believes that the team’s best option in the draft would be to trade down from No. 6 to obtain additional picks and an offensive weapon.
  • Though Cimini views Penn State RB Saquon Barkley as an ideal selection for the Jets in round one, he does not expect him to fall to No. 6 overall.
  • Cimini mentions Alabama WR Calvin Ridley as the next best offensive talent after Barkley, but he is regarded as a mid-first round prospect.
  • Cimini also suggests Notre Dame G Quenton Nelson as a player the Jets could consider.
  • Jets GM Mike Maccagnan has a history of selecting the best player available, which leads Cimini to think there’s a “strong possibility” they take a defensive player at No. 6.
  • If the Jets do select someone on the defensive side of the ball, Cimini mentions that they could use an edge rusher and a shutdown corner.

Redskins

  • Rich Tandler of CSN Washington writes that while there have been some talks regarding a contract extension between the Redskins and impending free-agent LB Zach Brown, negotiations should pick up following the Combine.
  • Tandler expects Brown’s agent to have a good idea of what his client will make after the Combine and it is “entirely possible” he’ll end up testing the open market.
  • If the Redskins are unable to re-sign Brown, Tandler mentions Georgia ILB Roquan Smith as a first-round prospect to keep an eye on for the team’s No. 13 overall pick.
  • Tandler would be “very surprised” if the Redskins selected LSU RB Derrius Guice in the first round since the team has never picked a running back in round one since the common draft started in 1970.
  • Regarding Redskins S Su’a Cravens, who spent the season on the exempt/left squad list after contemplating retirement, Tandler says it “seems highly unlikely” he’ll ever play for Washington again, given that he “broke the trust” of his teammates and damaged his relationship with the coaching staff and front office in the process.
  • Though the Redskins could cut Cravens as early as next week, Tandler expects the team to try and trade him and mentions a 2019 fourth-round pick as a “fair deal” for the former second-round pick.
