NFL Notes: Greg Olsen, Bears, Broncos, Browns, Lions, Ravens, Vikings

Greg Olsen

Former Bears GM Jerry Angelo admitted during a radio appearance on 87.7 FM The Game that trading TE Greg Olsen to the Panthers in 2011 was a mistake.

โ€œIt was a mistake to trade him,โ€ Angelo said, via CSNChicago.com. โ€œI understand he wasnโ€™t the ideal fit in the scheme, but we let our best receiver go. Obviously, it was [Jay] Cutlerโ€™s favorite receiver at the time, and we let him out the door.โ€

Angelo moved Olsen due to the fact that then-offensive coordinator Mike Martz didnโ€™t see Olsen as a fit for his offense.

โ€œThatโ€™s on me. I understand what the coaches were saying, but you donโ€™t let your best player โ€” one of your better players โ€” out the door. Everything heโ€™s doing hasnโ€™t surprised me. Heโ€™s an excellent player, particularly in the passing game. Heโ€™s Newtonโ€™s favorite target. Iโ€™m happy for Greg; heโ€™s not only a great player, but a great kid. Like Matt Forte, [he has] an insatiable work ethic.โ€
