NFL Notes: Johnny Manziel, Dolphins, Patriots

Johnny Manziel

Johnny Manziel explained during an interview with Pro Football Talk that he decided to sign with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats because he didn’t want to keep waiting for an offer from an NFL team that may not have come.

“It was really the wait,” Manziel said. “I didn’t want to get into something down the road where I’m waiting until August, waiting until training camps open, and then if something doesn’t transpire I’m getting here late.

Manziel added that he was “close” to signing with an NFL team.

“I think it was close,” Manziel said. “I did reach out and talk to multiple teams and coaches I had met in my first couple years in the league.

Dolphins

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has recovered nicely from a torn ACL and will participate in OTAs Tuesday.
  • According to Rapoport, Tannehill is going to do everything in practice, which is obviously a good sign for his progress in terms of his rehab from a serious knee injury.

Patriots

  • Jeff Howe reports that new Patriots DE Adrian Clayborn has recovered from the minor quad injury that he suffered earlier in the offseason workout program.
  • Howe adds that he wouldn’t be surprised to see Clayborn on Tuesday at OTAs and if he isn’t there, it would be an exercise in extreme caution on the team’s part.
