NFL Notes: Josh Allen, Draft, Browns, Cardinals

Josh Allen

An NFC executive tells Lance Zierlein of NFL.com that while Wyoming QB Josh Allen has been “hit or miss” at the Senior Bowl, he still loves the kid’s talent overall.

He’s been hit or miss, but I still love the talent,” the executive said. “There just aren’t many guys who play in the league who are his size and throw it like he does. They just go early.

Accuracy has been a big concern for Allen, as he completed less than 60 percent of his passes in both seasons as a starter at Wyoming and his performance at the Senior Bowl further highlighted these issues.

Zierlein mentions that it’s “starting to feel like there will be an NFL team willing to push their chips in on Allen’s outstanding arm talent while overlooking his accuracy flaws.

Draft

  • An AFC coach tells Lance Zierlein that Penn State WR DaeSean Hamilton is having a similar Senior Bowl as Bills WR Zay Jones did last year: “He’s having a Senior Bowl like Zay Jones did last year with the way he’s getting open and catching everything. Zay was a little more dynamic, but this kid has helped himself.”

Browns

Browns GM John Dorsey defended Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield‘s character at the Senior Bowl.

Are there character concerns about him?” Dorsey said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “You guys create a narrative that you try to portray him as one.

“Every young man will make a mistake in his life, I bet you. And I think he’s very remorseful of that mistake, and I think he’s moved forward from that, and he’s trying to make himself a better person, going through the process.”

Cardinals

  • Kent Somers reports Cardinals TEs coach Steve Heiden and WRs coach Kevin Garver could both be back in Arizona next season.
