NFL Notes: Justin Herbert, Chargers, Raiders

Justin Herbert

Albert Breer of The MMQB reports that buzz is starting to build around Oregon QB Justin Herbert “big-time” in scouting circles.

Breer says that everyone who’s been through Eugene leaves with a strong impression, and the last couple weeks those have been backed with strong performances against Stanford and Cal.

“Herbert’s a badass,” said one AFC exec tells Breer. “He’s gonna be special.”

According to the executive, Herbert is a real contender to go first overall in 2019: “I see no reason why the discussion wouldn’t have him in there with a handful of other guys.”

Chargers

• Chargers HC Anthony Lynn ruled DE Joey Bosa (foot) out for this week’s game against the Raiders. (Eric Williams)
• Lynn also said LB Kyzir White underwent a minor surgery on his knee Monday morning and will be out this week. However, Lynn added that White will be back sooner rather than later. (Eric Williams)

• Raiders HC Jon Gruden said that Brandon Parker is pushing Donald Penn for the starting right tackle job and added: “He’s pushing everybody.” (Scott Bair)
