SIโs Peter King is reporting that the Carolina Panthers have setup a second appointment with San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator for the teams head coaching vacancy. While this doesnโt guarantee a job offer, it doesnโt indicate that heโs certainly at the top of their list.
Rivera has been pegged as an option for a number of head coaching vacancies throughout the years but has remained in San Diego after continuously being passed up. The incredible job that Ron Rivera has done with Chargers defense this season could be exactly what gets him over the hump this time.
Other candidates that appear to be in the running include: Clevelandโs Rob Ryan, San Franciscoโs Greg Manusky, Perry Fewell of the Giants.

Iโd have to say that I agree with you on this one. Ron Rivera is a great coach and is more than deserving of the position but Carolina seems to always focus on their defense instead of building a solid offense. With the Panthers poor offense production this season, it would make sense to bring someone in that can get that group on track especially considering how young they are.
Iโm not against the hire because of how good Rivera has been throughout his career but it would be hard to imagine that Jimmy Clausen and company will be any better unless they bring in a great offensive coordinator.
