The San Francisco 49ers moved up in the second-round to secure Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick but from Jim Harbaugh comments, it appears that the 49ers are willing to at least give the rookie a shot.
“Alex (Smith) has the ability and license to be the starting quarterback and so does Colin,” said Harbaugh.
Harbaugh seems poised to retain Alex Smith for at least the upcoming season but at least they’re willing to hold an open competition. The bad news for Smith is that he’ll have the same pressure on him as he’s had in recent years. Kaepernick will get his chance at some point so Alex Smith’s window of opportunity maybe as small as ever.
