As soon as Mike Holmgren took the Cleveland Browns president job it seemed like it was just a matter of time before he was calling plays from the sidelines. Since Eric Manginiโs firing, Holmgren has brought in former St Louis Rams OC Pat Shurmur to take over as the teams head coach but that hasnโt stopped the speculation that heโll be taking over at some point.
Dan Pompei of National Football Post wrote earlier today that โit seems inevitable that Mike Holmgren is going to end up as head coach of the Browns. The team probably would have been best served if Holmgren gone back to the sidelines before he hired Pat Shurmur.โ
The fact that the Browns are currently without an offensive coordinator isnโt doing much to diffuse any speculation. During Shurmurโs press conference Holmgren mentioned that he seriously considered taking over as the teams head coach but later added that the team is Shurmurs to run. While the idea doesnโt seem like itโs a very likely scenario, it would definitely add some interest to a team that has as low of expectations as any.
