ESPN AFC East blogger Tim Graham is reporting thatย a league source informed him that the chances of ย the New York Jets actually signing CB Nnamdi Asomugha is “remote.” Grahams sources instead mentioned that the team is more likely to re-sign some of their free agent players like Antonio Cromartie rather than sign another CB to a huge contract.
The bad news for NFL fans that were hoping for an interesting offseason is that this is the most likely strategy for all teams this offseason. Rather than take a chance on free agent players, teams are moreย inclinedย to re-sign players that are already familiar with their specific systems because of the likelihood that the lockout cuts into offseasonย preparationย like OTA’s.
Someone will sign Nnamdi but the Jets are longshot as of now. The smart money appears to be on the Philadelphia Eagles but that’s still speculative at this point.
