Jason La Canfora ofย CBS Sportsย reports that there hasn’t been “any real movement” towards am agreement on a long-term extension for Bills Sย Jairus Byrd.
A report from last month indicatedย that the two sides wereย $2 million apart in terms of annually salary. All indications are thatย Byrd is unwilling to offer the Bills aย hometown discount and despite having close toย $20 million in cap space to work with, Buffalo has remained cautious throughout the offseason.
Byrd, 26, is already among the best safeties in the game and is in line to secure a huge contract on the open market next season, assuming of course that the Bills don’t use their franchise tag on him again.
“You don’t overspend like mad onย Mario Williamsย only to let your homegrown talent depart, and franchising again Byrd in 2013 would just be more expensive,” explains La Canfora. “It also isn’t exactly the way for a new coaching and front office regime to engender positive vibes in the locker room.”
