Seahawks S Kam Chancellor Prepared To Miss Regular Season Games For New Contract

Update:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Seahawks S Kam Chancellor is prepared to miss regular season games unless Seattle is willing to rework his contract.

  • According to Schefter, Chancellor is “not close to budging” on this matter.

Alvin Keels, the agent for Seahawks S Kam Chancellor, tells Josina Anderson of ESPN that “nothing has changed” in regards to his clients holdout and he has no plans to report to the team until his contract is addressed.

“Nothing has changed. He will not report without his contract being addressed this season,” Keels said. “The team and I have been in contact, but we haven’t been able to agree on any compromise.

Last we heard regarding Chancellor’s holdout, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported that Chancellor was under the impression that the team would rework his contract after he established himself as one of the top safeties in the game.

Chancellor reportedly agreed to his current contract, which offered less total money, but included more security. The move ultimately helped Seattle address other core players on the team’s roster.

According to Florio, Chancellor expects the Seahawks to restructure his contract so that it’s more in line with the five-year, $44.725 million deal signed by his teammate Earl Thomas.

The two sides are running out of time to get a resolution in place before the start of the regular season.

Chancellor, 27, still has another three years remaining on his five-year, $29.323 million contract that included $17 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $4.55 million (2015), $5.1 million (2016), and $6.8 million (2017).

In 2014, Chancellor appeared in 14 games and recorded 78 tackles, one interceptions, a forced fumble and six pass defenses for the Seahawks. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 20 safety out of 87 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Chancellor and his holdout as the news is available.

  1. Sure he’s prepared , he’s got all those millions the Seahawks already paid him for work he should be doing right now. I always liked this guy but that has changed. This is one greedy , ungrateful dude. And stupid. There isn’t a chance on Earth the Hawks will break.
