Tom Silverstein and Jim Owczarski of PackersNews.com, citing a league source familiar with the thinking of both parties, are reporting that the Packers and RB Aaron Jones have a mutual interest in a contract extension.
This comes after a breakout season by Jones, in which he was tied for the league lead with 16 rushing touchdowns.
Jones has proven to be a great fit for Matt LaFleurโs offense and is entering the final year of his rookie contract.
Jones, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Packers out of UTEP back in 2017. He is entering the final year of his four-year, $2.6 million rookie contract, which included a $201,948 signing bonus.
Jones earned a pay raise to $2.147 million by playing more than 35 percent of the total offensive snaps over three years, as part of the leagueโs proven performance escalators.
In 2019, Jones appeared in all 16 games and rushed for 1,084 yards on 236 carries (4.6 YPC) while catching 49 passes for 474 yards receiving and 19 total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 running back out of 58 qualifying players.
Weโll have more regarding the Packers and Jones as the news is available.
