Packers Place DL Muhammad Wilkerson On IR, Promote CB Tony Brown

The Green Bay Packers signed CB Tony Brown to the active roster from the practice squad, signed DL Deon Simon to the practice squad and placed DL Muhammad Wilkerson on injured reserve.

Last week, Packers HC Mike McCarthy announced that Wilkerson underwent surgery to repair a “significant” ankle injury, so he was expected to be placed on injured reserve.

Wilkerson suffered a left ankle injury during the second quarter of Week 3’s game against the Redskins and was carted off of the field.

Wilkerson, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2011. He played out his rookie contract with the team and was in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason before the Jets used their franchise tag on him last year.

The Jets signed Wilkerson to a five-year, $86 million contract before releasing him during the offseason. He later signed a one-year contract with the Packers worth up to $8 million.

In 2018, Wilkerson had appeared in two games and recorded four tackles and no sacks for the Packers.
