The Green Bay Packers have placed first-round S Darnell Savage on the non-football illness list to begin training camp, according to Field Yates.
The good news is that this isn’t considered anything major for Savage, as Rob Demovsky reports that he just had his wisdom teeth taken out.
Savage will still count against the team’s 90-man roster and can be activated at any time.
Savage was the No. 21 overall pick by the Packers out of Maryland. Green Bay elected to trade up with the Seahawks to acquire him and exchanged their No. 30, No. 114 and No. 118 picks for the right to draft him.
According to OverTheCap.com, Savage receives a four-year, $12,517,692 rookie contract that includes $7,123,776 signing bonus.
During his four-year college career at Maryland, Savage Jr recorded 182 tackles, one sack, eight interceptions, two defensive touchdowns, 13 pass defenses and a fumble recovery over the course of 40 games.
