Packers Re-Signing QB Joe Callahan

Rob Demovsky reports that the Packers are re-signing QB Joe Callahan to their active roster after he officially passed through waivers unclaimed on Monday.

This could be an indication that Green Bay will shut Aaron Rodgers down for the season if they’re eliminated from the playoffs tonight.

Callahan, 24, wound up signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Wesley College back in May of last year. He was able to make the 53-man roster as the team’s No. 3 quarterback coming out of the preseason but was later cut loose.

Callahan had brief stints with the Saints and Browns before returning to the Packers during the season last year.

Green Bay cut Callahan loose as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players and he was later signed to their practice squad. After Rodgers went down with a collarbone injury, the Packers promoted Callahan to their active roster.

However, they cut him loose this past weekend to make room for Rodgers.

During the preseason, Callahan threw for 112 yards while completing 61.9 percent of his passes to go along with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
