Trade Coming For Browns QB Colt McCoy?

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Cleveland Browns “are open to listening to offers” regarding QB Colt McCoy and adds that he’s “soon to be headed out of town.”

Reports from earlier in the day had the Eagles and Packers as speculative options but the fact that Philadelphia wound up taking Nick Foles in the third-round makes them a very unlikely destination. As for the Packers, they moved around a lot on the second day of the NFL draft, but have yet to address the quarterback position. I doubt that they’re considering exchanging anymore than a sixth-round pick in return for McCoy, so the Browns are obviously selling low on the former third-round pick. It would probably make the most sense for them to keep him as a backup option unless some offers them a decent draft pick.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen mentions that Colt McCoy is “not gonna bring a high value in terms of draft pick.”

I can categorically tell you that we have not engaged in any movement in regards to Colt,” said Browns head coach Pat Shurmur.

This appears to be a way for them to save face if they’re unable to trade McCoy. Brandon Weeden appears to be their starting quarterback of the future, so McCoy will most likely be relegated to backup player.

The Eagles, Packers and Seahawks have all been mentioned as possible trade partners for McCoy.

According to Bill Huber of Scout.com reports that the Green Bay Packers are considering a trade for Browns QB Colt McCoy.

The Browns are believed to be shopping him around the league and the Packers do have an obvious need for a backup quarterback. The asking price is probably in the 6th – 7th round pick range and the Packers certainly have plenty of those.

Cleveland Browns GM Tom Heckert was asked if they plan to shop to trade QB Colt McCoy now that they drafted Brandon Weeden last night and he responded by saying that it’s something that they’ll be discussing internally.

“Eventually [Weeden’s] gonna be a starter for us,” said Heckert, via the Akron Beacon-Journal. “That’s why we drafted him.”

It’s really hard to imagine the Browns finding a ton of interest in McCoy, so a late-round pick seems to be a reasonable return. There’s been a lot of speculation thus far that the Eagles could be one team to watch as they’re supposedly looking for a backup quarterback.
