Former Carolina Panthers G Travelle Wharton says that he is “leaning towards” retirement, but that no decision has been made yet, per Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer.
Wharton, 32, is coming off of a great 2013 season in which Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 5 guard in the league.
Interestingly enough, the Panthers actually released him back in 2012, but Wharton returned to Carolina last year when he signed a one-year contract.  He has spent all nine seasons with the Panthers.
The lack of substantial interest in Wharton has been fairly surprising considering his performance last season. Â Wharton’s age may be scaring off some teams, but if he is willing to accept a short term deal, he could catch on with a team before the season starts.
